Spirals and Loops, not Cycles

On a Sunday last November I was having lunch with my friend Monica and we were talking about self-renewing practice. We were discussing cycles and venn layouts, pyramids and ladders. It occurred to us that cycles don’t move forward. They just stay in one spot. How, then were we to move forward in an Act, Reflect, Revise Cycle?

What if instead of a cycle we had a looping spiral? Anne Davies talks about spirals quite a bit. What if we apply the notion of looping spirals to our learning cycles?

Now we have something that looks like this.

Now we have act, reflect, revise cycles that move us forward.
